600D vs 900D vs 1200D Polyester: Choosing the Right Fabric

What the number actually means

Denier measures yarn thickness. Higher denier means a heavier, more abrasion-resistant fabric — but also a heavier bag and a higher unit cost.

Quick selection guide

  • 600D PVC — the workhorse. Best value for 25-35L backpacks and promotional programmes.
  • 900D polyester — a good middle ground for gym duffles and larger backpacks.
  • 1200D Oxford — heavy-duty travel and equipment bags where abrasion is the main risk.

Coating matters as much as denier

A 600D fabric with a proper PU backing will often outperform a poorly coated 900D in real-world wear. Always request the coating specification, not just the denier.

We recommend ordering physical swatches before committing to a full production run — screen colours never match fabric reality.
